Pheasantflight Anaconda had never actually met her visitor, Queen Tanzanite, before. The rainwing had cleverly avoided any royal meetings before she became queen, but now that Anaconda ruled the rainforest, she had no excuses left. The other queens weren't trustworthy, or worth her time. Well, Anaconda didn't find many dragons trustworthy, but she didn't exactly have to worry about dragons in the rainforest, for it comprised mostly of astronomically dense RainWings and a couple of idiot NightWings as well. In fact, the only thing that would be worse than Tanzanite being untrustworthy would be if Tanzanite was incompetent fool. Or was Anaconda nervous because Tanzinite was, well an IceWing. IceWings had a famous hate of NightWings, and if Anaconda was honest, she was rather fond of her NightWing subjects. Though there weren't many of them, they still had a better percentage of smart dragons than the RainWings did. It was kind of pathetic, really. Anaconda lazed on her throne, absentmindedly worrying at one of her flower garlands. It was a string of small black and white blossoms that hung around her neck like pearls. Except it's better than pearls. She thought with satisfaction. Flowers were prettier, and much easier to harvest than pearls.

WinterTanzanite didn't like RainWings. They were much too lazy for her liking. It would have been much better if she was meeting with Sunburst or Gharial. Or, maybe not Gharial. From what she had heard, the MudWing was not the friendliest of dragons, but then again, neither was Sunburst. The problem with the other queens was that none of them seemed to know the meaning of peace. Of course it would end up with her being the only competent one. Tanzanite, the too-young queen. It didn't help that Anaconda was the queen of the RainWings and NightWings. The rivalry of the her tribe and Ananconda's second went far back. After all, had they not been thieves, it might have been better. NightWings had stolen the animus power that she should have had. She landed with a thump at the outskirts of the Rainforest Kingdom, silver claws clinking to the ground. She didn't like the rainforest. It was sticky and humid and hot, though it could be worse. The Sand Kingdom was much, much worse. The birds were screeching their completely unnecessary tune, the sound of buzzing insects was nothing less than an annoyance in her ears. Fine. Tanzanite pulled up short at the sight of Anaconda's platform. She hadn't heard much about the queen, with her being almost as young as Tanzanite, she hadn't made that big of an impact yet. "I have arrived." She had no doubt that Anaconda already knew that, but she felt the need to announce it anyways, just in case her spies had been slacking off. Flapping gently to the top, she stood and gazed the RainWing queen straight in the eyes.

"I have arrived." She had no doubt that Anaconda already knew that, but she felt the need to announce it anyways, just in case her spies had been slacking off. Flapping gently to the top, she stood and gazed the RainWing queen straight in the eyes. Anaconda sat up quicky and blinked several times, her talons dropping from her necklace. What was she doing, again? Oh, of course. Tanzanite. Anaconda suddenly wished, not for the first time in her life, that she could go back to being lost in thought. Her mind was MUCH better and FAR more interesting than other dragons, especially dragons of other tribes, and ESPECIALLY foreign royalty. "Hello." Anaconda said, not unkindly, but not anything else either. The queen regained her composure, straightening her spine and wrapping her long green tail around her talons. This was, by far, her favorite part of her day-to-day duties, looking imposing and refined all the time. She thought she did it better than any other RainWing she knew, because she actually cared about the way she held herself. Today, Anaconda had chosen a cool green for her scales, with a pattern of large dark blue spots arranged down her spine like the spots on her namesake. Her ruff was a yellow, not quite as bright as a pineapple, but still fairly perky. There was no use in being very bright in front of the queen of the IceWings, after all. A bit of icy opalescent pink bubbled around her wingtips as she took in Tanzanite's appearance. "I wanted to ask you something." Anaconda didn't like introducing herself, and, quite honestly, there wasn't much she wanted to know about the IceWing either. She stared straight back at Tanzanite's eyes for a moment, then decided uncomfortably that they were far to disturbingly icy to look at and ultimately not worth her energy, so she resorted to studying the IceWing's scales.

What an insult! Tanzanite liked to keep her head clear when meeting with dragons of high importance, but this insolent child, had dared to be blunt with her? A simple emotionless hello was not the welcome party that Anaconda would have received if she was in the Ice Kingdom. Of course, it would simply be better if they were in the Ice Kingdom in all regards, so that wasn't too good of a point. Anaconda's manner changed so quickly that she almost missed it, but going from relaxing to the appearance of chivalry and glory wasn't something that Tanzanite missed easily. At this point it was nature for her, and she doubted it was anything less for the other queen.
As the RainWings gaze moved away from her eyes, Tanzanite tilted her head to evaluate the others scales. The green and blue were acceptable, albeit, a bit bland. If she could change her scales, she would be a dazzling gold or glimmering blue at every moment. The yellow ruff was just a tad too bright. Not quite as bright as snow, but a real annoying shade of yellow that reminded her of the sun. She didn't like the sun. It made her scales feel drippy and like she was melting from the outside. Like a real icicle.
"Who would have thought," she muttered, but quickly straightened her composure. "What is it that you would like to know? It must be something rather important if you didn't think to send a messenger." The jibe was hopefully enough to annoy the queen without infuriating her. Honestly, Tanzanite would be more insulted to be in a room with Anaconda if that made her mad. Such a small phrase, fourteen words of potential trouble. It was worth it though. She took pride in her small moments of humor. It wasn't that funny, and she knew that, but she had heard IceWings called humorless beings, and she was determined to prove them wrong.

(oh my gosh my previous post was borderline terrible lol. I was up late when I wrote it, please forgive me for subjecting your eyes to such awful writing :'/ ) Pheasantflight That was decent logic, but Tanzanite seemed far too offended for Anaconda's taste. It looked like she'd be like one of those dragons, the type to always have her nose buried in rules, rules, RULES. Now, Anaconda was always one for elegance and poise, but etiquette was much too confusing and much too annoying, and restrictive, and so very shallow. Who cared if you didn't say all of the right things, or plaster a stupid sticky smile on your face all of the time? Who would have the energy to care? Tanzanite, apparently. Anaconda blinked again, unable to tell if Tanzanite was joking, or annoyed, or trying to make fun or her. Or was she being sarcastic? She didn't like it when dragons were sarcastic, because she couldn't ever tell if they actually were being sarcastic. She didn't have the time or the will to figure out the turbulent emotions of other dragons, and with her tribe's color-changing scales, she usually didn't need to. With the IceWing's muttering, though, Anaconda figured that annoyed was pretty close. Well, she didn't care, why should she? If Tanzanite wanted to be uptight and scandalized, Anaconda would leave her to it. The RainWing queen covered up the confused purple and orange swirls blossoming along her wings with icy pale pink, focusing on the color of Tanzanite's own wings until her wing membranes were the color of a frozen pond at dusk. "I would have sent a messenger, except that it could have been intercepted, a reply could have been forged, and what is put in ink is not always what is true. I'd prefer to see you myself."
Anaconda blinked again, luxuriously and slowly, quashing down the will to smile with satisfaction. "It's about my NightWings, partially. What do you think of them?" She asked lazily, allowing her gaze to wander away from the other queen. This was, of course, not the question she had planned on asking, but she wanted to see how Tanzanite would react. She tried to look as careless as she could, though she was watching the IceWing closely out of the corner of her eye.

(No, no! It was fine! Mine are pretty bad if not worse. I haven't gotten used to Tanzanite yet Winter Anacondas wings were changing colors now, switching from green to purple to orange to pink. The same pink as Tanzanites wings, something that may or may not have been done on purpose. She wished she had brought a RainWing. They had, what, two in the kingdom? Both in the palace, of course, as prisoners or runaways, but they would have made fine translators to the scale colors. She had heard that they meant different emotions depending on the colors, but of course, Tanzanite didn't know them. When she got back, she'd need a lesson on deciphering them. What if the other queens already knew and she was behind them all in knowledge?
Valid point. She should have thought of that to begin with. "I see, yet I find that something must be awfully important to send for me specifically." She didn't really care, but Tanzanite wasn't one to leave without reason. If this was the only reason, she'd be annoyed. Not that she wasn't already. And then the RainWing brought up NightWings. She had been expecting the question eventually, but already? And this was her main question? The tribe that had stolen magiv that Tanzanite herself might have had. No, not might, she would have had it. Definitely would have. She could have been the most powerful dragon in Pyrrhia, only for that to be taken away just as quickly.
"I don't find that essential to be asked nor answered," she responded curtly, eyes only briefly flashing before calming down to their storm-grey stare. "But if you need to know, I find them to be less infuriating than the actual tribe." They had chosen to remain with their saviors rather than running off, which was more admirable than the others, yet they still were thieves. Animus stealing thieves. "So, what is the real reason I am here?" It would be quite annoying if that was all.

Oooh, that made her upset, Anaconda thought with amusement, not bothering to fight the bubbles of yellow rising on her talons. But Tanzanite answer was... interesting. She didn't consider the rainforest NightWings actual NightWings? She wasn't sure how she felt about that, but at least Tanzanite hadn't answered with, "I'm going to annihilate them the first chance I get.". Well, maybe she still was going to annihilate them the first chance she got, which is why she had been brought here. "I want to propose a bargain, a treaty of sorts." Anaconda drew her shimmering wings into her green body and raised her head even higher, her wings and talons returning to their usual green. "I know what the NightWings did to your ancient animus prince, and I know what my subjects think you'll do to them if you get the chance." Anaconda managed to keep herself placid and heavy-lidded, though her voice betrayed the slightest bit of resentment and familiar black and red speckles broke out across her tail. "Here's the deal. You promise to stay away from my NightWings--and my RainWings too, for that matter--for the next fifty years. In return, we will not attack the IceWings for any reason within the next fifty years. My dragons have nothing to do with your animus magic or lack therof. Neither do the NightWings that don't reside with me, for that matter, but that isn't the point." Anaconda's relaxed manner had lifted slightly, her violet eyes narrowing as she spoke. "If either of us breaks the agreement, the other has full right to attack." This matter meant a lot to the RainWing queen, and Tanzanite should understand that if she intended to ever deal with Anaconda again. She was not harmless nor compliant and prepared to show it if Tanzinate chose to press her.

And, now she had yellow bubbles on her talons. Tanzanite really wanted a translator. She was honestly surprised at the show of possible emotion. Tanzanite thought she had done pretty well hiding her hatred. It was unfortunate, that Anaconda liked her NightWings. It would be much better if they were a different tribe altogether, her NightWings with the others. If that was true, then she wouldn't have to annihilate the RainWings as well. They were such a pretty species.
Of course she would only do it if her subjects called for it, and so far they seemed to be fine. "A bargain?" A silver brow lifted in intrigue before falling into evident annoyance. "You say it like it's nothing. It is not a little matter what their tribe did to us. Animus magic was rare enough on Pyrrhia, and now it's gone from our tribe." She could have continued, but there were things that Anaconda didn't need to know. Such as the fact that being an animus was only in the royal family and would have definitely been hers. I talent taken from her before she had the chance to prove she could use it for good.
"I suppose I might be interested." She leaned back, icy features frozen into bored resolve. "Your dragons have everything to do with our animus magic, so keep that in your mind. But, I am not a murderer and I happen to not engage in genocide, so I suppose it could be interesting." Tanzanite didn't know what to think about this. Usually she'd have advisors to talk with, or at least her cousin. "Your NightWings mean nothing to me. I accept on your terms, but I want more than just that. Perhaps we could be allies for the next few years." She wasn't sure what the queen would think about that, what anyone would think about that, but Tanzanite was on the losing end of the deal. She got barely anything from it. RainWings didn't seem to like the tundra and she doubted they would attack anytime soon. This was just a thought, one that could seem presumptuous or condescending or literally anything else. But she had to come up with something.

Pheasantflight What did I expect? She's a stupid royal IceWing. Of course I'd have trouble with her! Inky splotches bloomed across Anaconda's wings as she struggled to maintain her composure. Everything to do with it? Not a small matter? What their tribe did to us? This was exactly what she had feared, and it proved her initial thoughts about the IceWing queen. Anaconda discreetly took a deep breath in and let the black spread all across her talons and wings, rippling with streaks of tangerine, as if it were her intent all along. This was a trick that the RainWing queen had learned when she was young. If you act like you’re in control, dragons will think you are. Anaconda reminded herself of the sentiment. Don’t react. Don’t argue. Don’t let her see she’s upset you. Don’t antagonize her.Oh, but it was difficult. Did Anaconda’s NightWings decide to kidnap a ridiculous, sparkly, magic prince? No! Did any modern NightWings have even the slightest of says in what had happened, what, two thousand years ago? The IceWings had fared fine, hadn’t they? Why still be so upset about it? If the Ice dragons wanted magic, they should go out and look for it. Nothing was stopping them from having eggs with an animus, or asking one for a spell or two. But NO, IceWings were obnoxious, stuck-up peacocks that were FAR to superior to ever do anything that might put an end to their righteous hatred. ”If you’d like, I suppose. But I don’t need allies. I don’t intend to be indebted to any dragon, especially so early in my reign.” Even Tanzinite. In fact, especially Tanzanite. Never, in a thousand years would Anaconda ever willingly lower her defenses to a dragon so potentially vengeful towards her subjects. Never. You will never have them. A wave of red, green, indigo, and blue cascaded over her scales as a surge of protective fury swept through her. Do. Not. Antagonize. The unusual combination of colors quickly faded back into green and cerulean as Anaconda forced herself to remain calm. "I want peace between your IceWings and my NightWings."
