WinterSo it seemed that the RainWings - and perhaps part of the NightWings? - had a new queen. Sunburst glided through the thickest, lush trees, vines drooping down from boughs and huge, green leaves wet with morning dew, rising out from the soil, brushing against her orange talons. She supposed she, with her bright orange scales and golden eyes, fit right in as an exquisite flower. It made her feel like a RainWing. No matter how dangerous their stupid venom was, no dragon could make Sunburst succumb to them. Butterflies of a hundred colours fluttered around her and followed her as she nimbly stepped over a fallen log, heading towards the Royal Pavilion. Squawks echoed above and a frown settled on the SkyWing queen's face. It was SO painfully loud. How did the RainWings put up with this?? A fat, alarmingly furry brown caterpillar crawled up her leg and she shook it off grumpily. It was also swelteringly hot - worse than the desert. She brushed aside a cluster of leaves, and yellow orbs zoned in on the Royal Pavilion. Tsk - it was worse than Sunburst's extravagant palace back at the SkyWing kingdom - but then again, what could she expect from these lazy creatures? Sunburst wasn't sure if she could fly on the Rainforest, so she stepped over to the pavilion, and spread her wings, launching into the air and landing lightly on the pavilion. Three moons, she hoped this new queen was much better than the past queen, Queen Paradise. That silly old dragon would've been more fit for a comedian instead of a queen. Paradise had no dignity whatsoever. Briefly, Sunburst wondered if Paradise was dead. Then she remembered the RainWing philosophy of peace. "Queen Anaconda." If Anaconda, the new queen, was like Paradise, Sunburst would cut off ties with the RainWings until there was a new queen. Though perhaps the RainWing tribe had a history of producing silly, stupid queens.

eclipse A slender RainWing with scales of leafy emerald raised her head, seated on a wooden throne and adorned with wreaths of flowers. She had large symmetrical dark blue spots down her spine, and her ruff was a tangerine yellow. There was no trace of red or black from Queen Anaconda’s previous royal meeting with Tanzanite. Tanzanite had been horrible to have a meeting with, but she was an IceWing. Compared to the other tribes, SkyWings were great. They tended to grumble more than necessary, but they also generally didn’t sugarcoat or be too prideful, but most importantly, SkyWings weren’t idiots. Anaconda thought she had seen the SkyWing queen before, possibly in a meeting that her mother had forced her to attend. It might have been a different SkyWing, though? “Hello Queen Sunburst. I wanted to meet you.” Anaconda’s tone was serene and neutral. Unless Sunburst was much like Tanzanite, which Anaconda really, really hoped was not the case, she shouldn’t be offended by this lack of grandeur. She didn’t have the energy to deal with two obnoxious royals right now. Well, nearly all royals were obnoxious, the RainWing just hoped that this particular royal was less obnoxious than normal. Before waiting for the SkyWing to respond, Anaconda added, "I understand that you found my mother... frustrating."

WinterThe orange SkyWing pursed her lips as Anaconda raised her head. What kind of queen sat on their throne with their head down? Ughh... Sunburst groaned internally. She hoped that Anaconda wasn't like her mother. Paradise hadn't been rude or obnoxious like a lot of royals, but she'd been awful in her own way. Trying to talk sense into the dragon had been close to impossible. That's when Sunburst noticed that the throne was wooden. Aren't RainWings cheap. Golden eyes took in Anaconda's ridiculously bright, colourful appearance as Sunburst settled her wings, folding then back, and raised her head high, straightening her posture. The SkyWing queen hadn't came with much jewelry on, in case it was stolen - the only gems she had on her were the lines of small scarlet rubies embedded beneath her eyes that she'd gotten as a princess, more than twenty years ago. The scarlet stones scintillated as the sunlight coming down from the trees flashed its light at it. It seemed that Anaconda was a leafy green today, with dark blue spots and the thing behind her ears was yellow. Sunburst couldn't remember what it was called - a ruff? The queen narrowed her eyes as Anaconda spoke in a seemed, neutral tone, and Sunburst didn't need NightWing powers to know that Paradise would be brought up in this meeting. There was barely any jewelry around, and where was the palace??? Did Anaconda sleep in her throne or something at night??? "Your mother was a klutz," she replied bluntly, harshly. Her voice was more of a growl today, hmm. Sunburst decided, she'd better lighten her tone. So she tried as she continued, though a little unsuccessfully. "And that's the only word to describe Paradise. Such an idiot," the SkyWing added under her breath, a faint wisp of smoke drifting out from her nostrils and vanishing in the moist air. "...Now, I'm a busy queen, and I've a kingdom to rule. So hurry up and get whatever you want to say over with!" Her voice sharpened as she finished the sentence, feeling what felt suspiciously like a spider land on one of her wings. The tickling, furry sensation didn't feel too good. How did part of the NightWings put up with this?

eclipse Oh my. It seemed that Queen Sunburst was much more to Anaconda's taste than Tanzanite. Amused yellow bubbled up through the RainWing's green wings as she raised her eyebrows. "Actually, I have many other words to describe my mother. Positively ditzy, absolutely inane, and preposterously daft." Anaconda's tone had lightened somewhat, mostly from relief. She wouldn't have to put up with nearly as much today, if things kept going this direction. Now, now, don't get hopeful. Optimism never helped anyone. "I firstly want to apologize for Paradise's incompetence. Please do not hold anything she may have done against me or my subjects." The RainWing queen shifted back into her 'queenly' tone of voice, but it was less businesslike than normal. Anaconda actually felt rather sympathetic towards her SkyWing guest. As Paradise's daughter, she had had to put up with her mother's shallow disposition her whole life.

WinterSunburst ignored Anaconda, golden orbs taking into her surroundings. She noted down the lack of jewelry and grandeur - expected of course, since RainWings were ditzy and brainless drats. Anaconda though - she seemed quite the opposite of the typical RainWing, which was surprising. Yellow bubbles were appearing along Anaconda's wings - bright and worthy of mockery. Oh, wouldn't Sunbust have a story to tell once she arrived back at the Sky Kingdom, with the crisp, refreshing air, and the slate grey mountain scenery. An eyebrow went up in major disbelief at the RainWing queen's apology which did not sound sincere to Sunburst at all. Resplendent rubies glimmered at her eyes as said eyes glared at Anaconda, eyeing the other queen rather suspisciously. "Hmm," was all the SkyWing queen said for a bit, legs getting a little fatigued now. Clearly, RainWings didn't know how to treat guests - or maybe because not many dragons came this way just for a visit. She'd understand why - the hot temperature was unbearable and her wings itched to launch themselves into the air and fly away. A coil of smoke wisped out of her mouth as she exhaled, and it curled around her horns as she turned it over in her mind. She pitched her voice sharper, into her 'queen' voice, since technically, she was making a peace treaty at this rate. "Alright. But one wrong move, and it's over." It did sound like a threat, but that wasn't what it was supposed to be. Sunburst refrained from clearing her throat, as she went on to a different topic. "I heard... you RainWings have a 'peaceful' throne contest?" She wasn't too sure how to word it but Sunburst thought it was good enough. She'd asked because she'd caught a whiff of this rumour at her own palace, whispered by her guards and spies. She wasn't going to elaborate on how she'd heard the rumour, because she didn't want Anaconda to know she sent spies to the kingdoms, to keep informed and be ready for any major disaster or war. It was a dangerous job, but not like her subjects would refuse - they'd be dumped into the dungeon, awaiting trial, for disobeying the queen. Her malevolent yellow gaze settled on Anaconda, waiting rather impatiently for the RainWing queen's reply.

Anaconda eyed the smoke as it curled up into the sky, uneasy. As much as she hated the RainWings' fear of fire, the 'no fire in the Rainforest' rule was there for a reason. A pale tangerine mingled with lime green flickered along her talons before fading back into emerald. The queen considered Sunburst's reply. Was the SkyWing threatening her? She couldn't tell. Just in case, Anaconda drew her wings in closer to her body.
Yes, we do indeed have a peaceful way of transferring the throne. Anaconda suppressed a hiss. She would have been able to beat her mother in combat, but NO. Paradise had insisted on a camouflage contest. It had taken three tries for Anaconda to finally win the crown. She would have challenged her mother many more times if she'd had to, so intent was she to save her tribes from the evil that was stupidity. Red and orange was beginning to speckle her tail now. Why did her tribe have to be so... so... disappointing and pathetic?! Anaconda took a deep breath before continuing, though the orange lingered. "It's a RainWing tradition. The queen will select a contest, and then the queen and the challenger will compete. The winner takes the throne."
Noticing Sunburst's glaring, Anaconda met her eyes defiantly. She was not a pathetic RainWing. She was not a compliant RainWing. She was NOT afraid of this dragon, and Sunburst should know it.

The orange dragon surveyed Anaconda, her expression not giving away her thoughts, as the RainWing explained this 'peaceful' throne contest. Pfft. Sunburst had been expecting that there was one indeed, considering RainWings were lazy and pathetic, so she wasn't exactly surprised. She raised an eyebrow as Anaconda drew her wings closer. Oh, RainWings were scared of fire, right? Anaconda had met her gaze defiantly, and briefly Sunburst studied the other queen's features. How old was this queen anyway? Fifteen years? Sunburst had been...what was it, sixteen years when she'd taken the throne from her mother, who'd had the audacity to abdicate her throne. She recalled the feeling of tearing dragon flesh under her claws... It hadn't felt good, but it had felt triumphant. That she was good enough to beat her elder sister in a fight. "Ah," she said, as a brightly coloured bird fluttered over head, squawking so loudly Sunburst would turn deaf when she left the rainforest. Her head whipped upwards as the bird vanished from sight. She supposed it would make good prey... but what she wanted to propose, surely hunting the bird wouldn't be the best way to. "So, where is Paradise now?" Sunburst asked casually, but there was still a malicious hint in her voice. She settled her wings again, partly wishing that Anaconda could've visited her on the Sky Kingdom instead, where Sunburst could look like a real queen. Too late to make new arrangements though.
